The Eastern Sports Propaganda Network is currently jocking Doc Halladay's performance against the newly-crowned-'JV' Padres pretty hard. Doc was outstanding, he was def throwing that Cy Young stuff, giving up one run over 8 2/3 and striking out 14. But cereal, is it really headline news when you dominate the worst of the worst? NOPE.
This is also a duel Week in Hate post for the JVPads 'offense'. So considering both, lets talk stats. San Diego's best career hitter in the lineup was Wade LeBlanc, the starting pitcher. LeBlanc was also NOT coincidentally the only batter not to strikeout against Roy in the contest (the player to pinch hit for Wade in the 8th, Cantu, took care of those duties). In addition 9 of Roy's 14 Ks came against batters hitting below .185, or with fewer than 20 ABs this year.
(ESPN freeze frame after the jump)
Oh yeah, he really 'filled out a prescription', ending that painful Philly slide by completing a four game sweep against a team that had only scored 2 runs in the previous 3 games. Real clutch, Roy, you're the man. The whole first month's momentum of the NL favorite Phillies rested on your shoulders on that perfect day in San Diego. What if the Phils had lost? And heaven forbid gone 3-1 in the set, still completing their franchise 12th road-series win in a row handily? All would have been lost. Praises for the good doctor.
It's the same bs as when the Young Buck Brandon Jennings dropped 55 pts last year for Milwaukee in the NBA...the Bucks were playing the GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS, who's MO is literally to not play defense. So woop-de-damn-do.
Now some Friar Faithful might say, "Hey Jerry's Kids, isn't it a good thing that ESPN is saying that our boys aren't that bad, it's just that Halladay is that good?" And to them I say, "No." Because those of us who have watched all the games so far know what really happened on Easter, and the fact that that network is using our team to cook up some East Coast hype is as awful as it is typical.
So here's me giving you the bird, ESPN, thanks for rubbing in the salt. Asses.
Hate by Matt.
