The One Nut out of the pants Rally

I was lucky the past two days that by the time I had enough time during work to check out the score to the padres game, my espn scorecenter ap on my phone had already alerted me to the fact that we were losing 6-0. Great end to the day right? The JV has got me so depresed about our offense that once the other team scores even just one run I'm  already ready to grab a new pair of underwear. And if its more than 3 runs I cant even turn on the game, I'm forced to turn to baseball tonight to get my offensive fix.

I don't have a lot to say tonight except that the offense can only get better from here. I mean seriously. Bud Black is gonna run out of "I think the hitting will come around" lines at some point and Hoyer will be forced to trade the JV for our triple A squad. I mean Rizzo is hitting .400 or something. Rizzo would be much more fun to watch and he cant do any worse than the Hawpe line right??? Plus I cant wait to hear chears from petco "RIZZZZZZZZOOOOOOOOOO", just sounds so awesome.

These JV players really need to step it up though. Baseball is FUN! These guys don't even look like they are having fun. Hey Hawpe I will trade you jobs, I bet you I could play first base and hit .100 right now. Shoot I'll even throw down a few bunt hits! Go have some fun padres! My bag of different rally starters was almost down to bring out the "one nut out of the pants" rally before Ludwig finally hit a bomb (and by bomb I mean about a 1cm over the fence). Common pads I really don't wanna have to get serious and pull out the one nut just to get things going every game, otherwise I'm gonna be watching a lot of games from my living room instead of petco this year.

Your still faithful friars fan Pat

Braves 7, Padres GOOSE EGG

On 'defense' Brad Hawpe Brad-Hawpe-ed a ground ball up the line with two outs in the 3rd leading to a 5 run spanking in the frame against someone who used to be named THE Mat Latos. Inconsequential, as the JVPadres got 4 hit and shut out, concluding a 1-6 homestand. Watching these games, I find myself constantly and exactly quoting this baby.

The Braves have a team BA only ten points higher than the Friars, but they scored 18 runs in the three game set against us. In Petco. Let's get outta this place and get on the road.

Debacle.

APRIL SHOWERS...

I've made jokes about it in previous posts. But all shits and giggles aside, the Padres have played A TON of extra-innings this year.

The Padres are at 7 extra-inning games out of the 24 played thus far. Last year we played a total of 14 in the entire season. So far they are 2-5 in those 7 games. I don't have the exact amount of innings but I have to generally assume that's about an extra two or three whole games added on (if you also throw in the added time during that debacle of a game that lasted until 1:30 AM) to this short season. We are currently on a pace to play 47 games that go past the mandatory 9 for the year. Compared to just the rest of the division we are by far the leaders in games that-go-well-beyond-my-parents-bed-time. The closest in the division is the Giants with 4 extended games (one of those being a damn win last night), while everyone else comes in at 2 a piece.

I know that these are professional, for the most part, athletes but extra frames add additional wear to the arms. As consequential is that aspect is over the course of a season, when the team is struggling as a whole the constant extra inning caused by leaving 11hundred runners on base makes it rougher all around on the mind as much as the body.

Which brings me to this: May.

I couldn't find any news articles to back me up but am I wrong in saying that  May is our month? Like, we're notorious in that regard right? Well I'm hopping on that party bus right now. Men left on base, obscene amount of extra-inning games, general atrociousness, it's all getting left behind. So go f-yourself April, do you worst, I'm waiting until my month May. In May, 8 out of the 10 series we play are against teams at or below .500 currently. I'm Applebees feeling good in the neighborhood about May.

But we should sweep the Dodgers this weekend for good measure anyway.

GO PADS C'mon Latos let's take this series.

"It's times like these you learn to love again" Dave Grohl

This song came to mind after Ludwick's walk off jack tonight. After what has been up until now a frustrating year for the Pads offense, one at bat changed everything, at least for tonight. This is the great thing about baseball, even though our Pads have dropped to the cellar of the NL West and have possibly been swinging wiffle ball bats for the last couple weeks, tonight they made us all happy. Ryan Ludwick goes from a huge disappointment to a hero with one swing. Maybe it's what he needed to get it going this season, or maybe he will go back to disappointing us, but at least now we have one good memory of the guy that was supposed to put us into the playoffs last year.

There was actually more good news from this game than Ludwick's performance, even though his shot was the most memorable. How about Brad Hawpe? In most ballparks he hit two bombs tonight, of course in Petco he hit a double and an f7, but could he finally be busting out of his slump? Can we even call what he has been in a slump? There must be a better word for a guy that has been going as bad as Hawpe has this season. There is always talk about a hitter hovering around the "Mendoza line" when he is struggling to keep his average over .200. Hawpe hasn't been able to keep his average over .100 until tonight. At least tonight he broke the "Hawpe line," and he better keep hitting because that's a name that's likely to stick. Just to put into perspective how bad he has been, not one player with more than 5 at bats on the 2010 Padres hit under .125, and that includes the pitching staff. So here we go Brad, keep hitting like you did tonight and you'll get things going.

Of course the pitching was stellar again tonight. Only 4 baserunners allowed by Mosely, and the bullpen didn't allow a single run.

Something about tonight's game makes me feel like opening day again. Just yesterday I was sitting at Petco frustrated, and today things are looking up again. Like I said, that's baseball, and that's why I love it. Of course if the Pads get shut out again tomorrow I'll probably hate it once again.

Hawpe on out of here brad...

Wouldn't it be nice to log in to padres.com tomorrow to see a headline of Hawpe retires saving padres 6 million dollars. I have watched almost every game this season and came to the realization that I haven't seen Hawpe hit a single line drive. Between the weak grounders and called strikes, he manged to hit a few cue shots that somehow landed in the outfield.

THIS WEEK IN HATE: ESPN

The Eastern Sports Propaganda Network is currently jocking Doc Halladay's performance against the newly-crowned-'JV' Padres pretty hard. Doc was outstanding, he was def throwing that Cy Young stuff, giving up one run over 8 2/3 and striking out 14. But cereal, is it really headline news when you dominate the worst of the worst? NOPE.

This is also a duel Week in Hate post for the JVPads 'offense'. So considering both, lets talk stats. San Diego's best career hitter in the lineup was Wade LeBlanc, the starting pitcher. LeBlanc was also NOT coincidentally the only batter not to strikeout against Roy in the contest (the player to pinch hit for Wade in the 8th, Cantu, took care of those duties). In addition 9 of Roy's 14 Ks came against batters hitting below .185, or with fewer than 20 ABs this year.

JV

JV thats what the padres have been this series against the Phillies. JV as in junior varsity! Seriously the padres looked like a bunch of high schoolers who were out there to just have fun, not really caring if they win or lose but at the end of the game they will get their snack bar ticket and go home. The only thing varsity about this team right now is the pitching which has been superb supporting the NL league leading era of 2.95. And that is without much help from Latos (which will hopefully change soon) and starting Yankee/Angel castoff Dustin Moseley.

Junior varsity (my new nickname for the padres anemic offense) is continuing a yearly trend of drinking too many 40oz. bottles of preseason hype and stumbling to the finish as the worst of the bat swingers. The JV currently holds the rank for 16th out of 16 teams in the NL in terms of offense and is the lowest in almost all categories except stolen bases.

Now granted the Phillies are no chumps and are probably one of the best teams in the league, the friars offense still had a chance to win every single game of the series. The varsity did a hell of a job holding the phillies sluggers to no more than 4 runs in any game. And it would have been less if it weren't for some blooperesque defensive plays.

For now though lets focus on the JV and dissect two of my main reasons for the collapse of offense in the sunny san diego. And no I am not like most people right now blaming the hitting coach, petco park effect (though that heavy sea air does create one),  or lack of fan support. Instead my two main reasons for the fall of the offense are this:

1. Lack of leadership and accountability

2. Payroll

Though both of these are almost interchangeable lets start off with number 1. Even if you have the most talented team in the league, you will never win without leadership!!! All great teams have great leaders, think Kobe and the lakers, Pujols and the cardinals, and all the other great leaders who have defined their teams throughout the years. And its not always the big star money makers who are the team leaders.  Last year adrian might have been our best hitter and overall best player but personally I don't think he was our team leader. The 2010 team could be defined by Eckstien, Jerry hairston Jr. and the BK "big kid" Heath Bell. Yes adrian led almost all offensive stats and was definitely a leader, the three aforementioned players truly led the padres to an almost cinderella story.

One word defined those three players mentioned and that would be CLUTCH! I can't remember how many times Jerry Hairston Jr. came through with a huge double play or big hit to drive in a winning run, but that guy was the shit! Right now the padres have NO offensive leadership. No one they can truely count on to be consistent. No one to drive in that run when it counts. No one to get a team fired up. Who ever once quoted that "hits are contagious" was a total genius. We need someone on the team to step up and be that spark to start some hitting flurries. IF one of Ludwick, Cantu, Headley, Hawpe, or Hudson can't get some leadership qualities soon we are done. All of them have the potential and experience, someone needs to step up!

The second cause of a woeful offense is the payroll. The UT in February quoted the padres as having a payroll of close to 40 million (it could be less). That gives us a ranking of close to 27-29th (depending on what payroll we take on or get rid of in the coming months). Sorry to say but trying to find lightening in a bottle only happens every once in a while. There is only so many times upper management can put out a meager amount of money and hope to get maximum value. Kevin Towers was a master at pulling this off with the bullpen which is always a possibility but offense is a different beast. The padres got lucky last year that they had an anchor and leader in Adrian and clutch leaders in Hairston Jr. and Eckstien, this year they have neither.

The padres spent little money on high risk high reward guys which right now is paying off very poorly. Getting high value players on the cheap is an extremely important value to have when running a small/mid market team but don't count on that model paying off very often. Very few teams with payrolls under 50 million tend to every win world series. It is just too hard to put a good product on the field with such low input and thus the Junior Varsity was born. But seriously common Morad, is 50 million really that much to ask for??? Even with 50 million we could have spent the money on a decent hitting outfielder or first basemen.

Without a change in either of these the padres could be doomed to be the bottom dwellers of the NL West. I am still holding the hope since I will never turn my back on the padres but it is serisouly getting sad, boring and hard to watch.  And don't believe todays stat line of 0 errors. I saw at least 3 padres errors in the game, a grounder to Hawpe that lead to a run, a ball in and out of the glove of diving venable that allowed an inside the parker, and a diving ball missed by ludWIG.

This is your Friar faithful padres blogger Patrick McQuinn, over and out.

16.

The Pads left 16 men on base in a 2-1 loss in 11 innings in the first game of a double header against the NorthSiders. Luke Gregerson gave up the fatal jack in the bottom of the 11th in front of a crowd of 129 people and 200 birds at Wrigley.

Six. Teen. Left on base. One run. Including, I believe, 8 walks. If you get 8 walks in a game and you only plate one of those....well then you are the San Diego Padres.

It's getting ridiculous.

SSSHH....IT'S THE WIND

One day after the boys put up 8 against Houston, they lose a 1-0 game to the Cubbies in a game played inside a freezer. This marked about the 27th extra inning competition the team has played so far this season.

Still a decent game to watch because considering the pretty phenomenal pitching by Tim and Big Z, as well as that after nine innings the game had only run for about 2 hours. If this was Sox v. Yankees it would only have had been the top of the 5th after two hours and I would've had to take a second nap.

Anyway Dino missed the cut of man in the bottom of the 10th on a Tyler Colvin's double down the right field line and the Cubs plated a man for the walk off win. Personally, I blame the Cubs announcers for the bush-league use of reverse karma against Chad Qualls.

All in all I was glad to see Stauffer match Zambrano's dominance, and win or lose to get the boys off the field and back in the hotel before another game under supposedly worse conditions tomorrow.

Time for a little stability...

Hoyer keeps talking about giving these guys enough at-bats before we can judge. I believe his number was 150 at bats before we know what these guys are going to do. Well we are a 1/3 of the way to his magic number and i am little worried. At the same time I believe that if we have to wait it out we might as well find a standard lineup to put out there most nights. Lets give the guys some comfort in knowing their roles on the team. As much as Ludwick hasn't produced in the number 4 spot, he has hit some hard balls right at people. He wont hit .300 but he can hit 20 home runs and drive in 80 runs from the clean up spot. i am tired of the lineup flip flop everyday. Hundley was hot hitting in the number 8 spot and looking like he was putting things together offensively until that switch in the line up. The first night he was moved up in the order he has no hits in the next two games. He might have been hot but he didn't look as comfortable with the pressure of being the run producer in the lineup. Slumps cant last forever, this team will begin to produce. They won't score 10 runs a game but with the pitching 4 might do it most nights. Lets get out Sunday boys and give Clayton a little help.

DERP DE DERP

Loss 5-3 to the 'Stros.

Mat Latos is struggling. Well struggling if you are a starting pitcher for the San Diego Padres. We need them to be on point on the reg, and he has been giving up big home runs and allowed 5 over 6 1/3 today. I remember last year there was some talk that he might be tipping his pitches... or maybe hitter are figuring him out. We'll see, in a

Luckily my mlb.tv shitted (nice, firefox recognizes shitted as a correctly spelled word...but it doesn't recognize firefox as one?) out around the time of the collapse so I didn't have to witness the devostation.

In other great news Uncle Teddy told a horrendous story about some old school Padre cutting off his own finger during a baseball game after he 'jammed it' and the bone was sticking out, possible while grilling chilly in the club house. Delightful.

Just another goofy day in Padreland. The boys look to even up the series tomorrow in a savvy vs. shabby matchup:

One of these pitchers probably had a early morning paper route as a kid, the other lit bottle rockets attached to stray animals.

PAID

Adrian Gonzalez left our team to make bank.

ESPN shows up just how much bank here, in a comparative FML kind of way.

Basically Adrian Gonzalez makes my salary in one at bat. 'S sum g'times.

SIDE NOTE

I looked it up, we don't play Colorado until May 13th. That's Friday, the 13, of May. Hopefully they will CTFO (chill tha fuck out) by then.

After too much time spent with Dick and Mud and the family at Ch4, I switched it up and caught most of the game with Uncle Teddy and my main man Andy Masur today and it was awesome. I know it's always been a love/loath thing with Ted, and I lean towards love for the record, but if there was a statistic kept for longest outro to commercial break after a half inning, Uncle Teddy be Babe Ruth of broadcasting.

Also I hope Adrian starts mashing a bunch but the Red Sox keep loosing, Chris Young stays healthy and continues to do well in NY.... and I don't really care anything about Peavy...I hope his favorite Nascar driver gets points or something.

Good updatin'

EXACTLY

This is exactly how to win games. Padres 4 Reds 2.

Assuming that our pitching is still the stinky shit, as it absolutely has been, all we need is our batters (Ludwick) to come through ONCE a game with runners in scoring position, an occasional jack with maybe a sack fly or small ball runs here and there and we will WIN ALL THE TIME. EVERY GAME.

The Padres are first in the bigs in quality starts (9 qs out of 15 games) and absolutely dead last in slugging percentage in the majors. On the positive side, it's a joy to watch our starters come to the ballpark and do work game in and game out. They are pitching out of jams and staying away from giving up the big innings. We're still not getting any close calls on the base pads but anyway.

On to game three out of four in the series.

C'MON MATTY LATOS LET'S DO THIS

A WIN!!

PADRES WIN!

WOW

WOW. I watched this game from start to the 11th and THAT was how the repay me?? WOW. They leave the maximum of six men on in the 9th and 10th (it's been said a million times, we have a bases loaded curse) and then let the reds drop a SIX spot in the 11th. I mean we had our chances and about 1 foot of combined close calls didn't go our way and that's just how it goes. But still....fuck I waited all night to see how that game would end.

 FAIL.

I wonder if Ryan Ludwick has a no AAA clause in his contract? 1 for 25 I do believe.

LIVE BLOG AGAINST THE REDS

Total lie. 'Live' to me, not live to anyone else. Factually this was yesterday's game. 16 hour time difference and MLB.TV HOLLA. It gets boring watching these games solo with no one to talk to so it's you and me Jerry's Kids, let's do this. Hopefully every other line won't start with Votto. Also let's hope nobody changed their jock since yesterday and the bats show up.

* Mark Grant wants Latos to chill out. I say fuck that throw at a the first batter and put the fear in em, we live in docile ass SD we need a lil fire.
* First contact is a fly out, but def a homerun in Cincy. Remember what Adrian used to do in Cincy? Sigh.
* I like the threesome of #19, Ole Man Endberg and Mudcat in the booth. K I like Tony in the booth, how about that.
* Joey Votto looks like a yayga'bombs type of guy. He also gut rung the fuck up
* I know the Padres waitress for the seats behind home plate through some mutual friends. The one night I met her she had broke up with her 5 year boyfriend the day before and we all got sloshed on tequila in Old Town and she kept alternating between shots and crying. Cool chick though considering.
* Latos wasn't dominate but looked good through one. My connection sorta shittedout towards the end of the inning so to be honest I didn't a lot of it.
* Is this Reds starting picture the fucker who bicycle kicked someone with cleats during a scuffle last year?
* Will Venable is a G.
* Great contact by Hudson, waited back on that ball and taking it the other way. Looking fly in the first!
* FUCK YEA O Dog, take that stolen base. 2nd 3rd w/ no1 out.

* Christ. Bases loaded. The Pads have a bases loaded curse for real. C'mon Luddy
* BEANED! Hahah cool? I got drunk on Saturday night and passed out, only I was still standing up when the latter occurred. Ludwick and I should compare bruises.
* Hawp has not been taking good hacks... he should get hit...
* I'll take a sac fly instead, good catch
* The Chn4 guys are talking about someone going out to clam down a pitcher. I remember Buddy Black did that to Peavy during his first season as manager in the middle of a inning while jake was screaming at himself as usual. I thought Jake was going to front kick Buddy back to the dugout when he got to the mound.
* Double play.  Two early runs tho.
* Latos is hitting the low 90's consistently, gettin the calls. Good thing Joe West is at 1st and not behind the plate. Because he's a fat, fat bastard. Only reason.
* Ridic ass ground to the catcher play, good heads up Nick.
* 94, 93, 79.  Good luck adjusting to that, Reds. This game is sorta goofy already.
* Liking Cam Maybin. No homo.
* Scott Rolen has won 8 goddamn gold gloves? One of those was probably supposed to be Kooz's
* Latos crusin through three, totally in control. Also the crowd sounds a lot better with out another team's fans there to drown them out.
* hahah Dick Endberg "That Met's bullpen is in big trouble." It's only been like that for 4 years of the same headline.

* Good snag by Dave Roberts. MLB should give out silver gloves every year for the best 1st and 3rd base coaches fielding.
* Volquez is calmed the fuck down. Curve looking good, change up is working well.
* Sorta fell asleep during that frame, maybe because I worked 11 hours today and I got home and got in bed to watch the game....
* Quick cig and I'm back!
* Hot Rod Hudley taking advantage of the lightening quick Votto's failed H&R.
* Johnny Gomes hit a ball that looked like it challenged the speed of sound. BOOM, 2-1 Pads end of the 4th.
* OH. FUCK. YES. The San Diego Chicken is at Petco. LET'S GET THIS DONE. as Ludwick strikes out.
* Brad Hawp. That name puts a fear in no one.
* This game is 3-2 Reds in Ohio. Not here next to the bay, bitches. One out in the 5th.
* Okay. well. fuck me. Now it actually IS 3-2 Reds in the 5th after the 2 run jack. Begged for that Karma. C'mon Matty keep those pitches down.
* Mark Grant just informed me there is a 3rd round of the WNBA draft. I'd ask why but I've already spent too much time on the subject.
* The bottom of the 5th went by fast. Pad's haven't gotten a hit since they got the first out of the first inning. I'm busy gearing up to making pasta for dinner, because I didn't quite get it right the last six nights in a row that I've had it for dinner.
* Shit kickin hells yeah, Will Tha Thrill leads off the 6th with a base knock.
* O Dog down on 3 pitches. Saawweeet.
* Will caught stealing. Great throw and tag. I'm literally leaving now.
* Okay I came back as Headly scores a walk. Ludwick and his .115 average is up.
* That average is lower now.
* Speaking lower now, it's the 8th and the Pads are still down 3-2. No bats. I also just paid off $500 worth of student loans online. Guess who's 1/42th of the way there putas!
* This spaghetti sucks.
* See, this is what I'm talking about, the Reds drafted Joey Votto. The Giants drafted Posey, same with Howard, Braun and on and on. On the offensive side... who have we drafted in the last 20 years? Christ I know we won't be able to keep them but give us something.
* Qualls just got out of a two runner on jam in the 8th, atta boy. Last year you always felt like the boys had a decent chance at mustering up something, it's hard to Keep the Faith strong with this lineup but we'll see...
* Leadoff, knee-slappin, double!!!! A-Gon2.0!!
* kill me. A-Gon2.0 out at 3rd on a messed up bunt. AND he was safe. When it's not going your way...

* Cantu is fouling off a baker's dozen balls as we speak. I remember Carols Hernandez fouled off 9 in a row once.
* Strike em out throw em out double play. everyone and everything die. I'm becoming a Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League full time fan now. New blog on the way. Pain and misery.
* Okay bottom 9 now, O Dog gets the bloop, forget the blast how about a double??

* Okay okay, 1 out and O Dog on 2nd, how about a single?!?!?! CMON LUDDDDDDYYYY!!!
* The Name of No Fear grounds out to end it.

Didn't happen. Blast. We got one or two breaks, wasn't enough for the non-bat to overcome, even tho Matty Latos looked good. Back at em' tomorrow!!

THIS WEEK IN HATE: BEN & JERRY'S

Here's a and mature little internet feud I've been having with a good friend and unfourtante Giants fan:

Me: I got up early to watch the Padres try to sneak a two game sweep from some random evil team, by the time I headed into work to help out with snack time it was 8-1 the bad guys and although the put up a fight in the 9th, couldn't quite close the deal.

Some random evil team... I don't think that's quite how the WORLD CHAMPIONS prefer to be addressed, but I understand you're still hurting. Letting it slide. Go get yourself some Ben & Jerry's.

Oh does Ben & Jerry's have a Jonathan Sanchez has mouth AIDS flavor? Or is there a Zito Billion Dollar Contract flavor too? I'd buy that one but I wouldn't be able to take it into the post season so I'd have to plan accordingly.

WELCOME BACK BATS

The Harang-a-tang pitched a dandy, getting beaten only by some ball antics after a walk and hilarious error for the only two Doyer runs. Wait, now I have a question -- if a run scores on an error that the pitcher commits, then is that an earned run?? Guess we'll never know.

But even better was seeing the boys put a charge into a few pitches for some BOMBS by Luddy, Hot Rod Hundley and Killa Cam Maybin (in addition to his triple, all with Cam coming OFF THE BENCH). It's good for them to shake that Petco Park voodoo and realize that it's physically (I mean physics, not physical) possible to hit a home run at home.

I won't get into how abysmal the offense has been bc the stats make eyes bleed, but it's been BAD. Like they might as well of brought lawn chairs with them to first/second/third base because no need to be anything besides comfortable while you wait to go back on D and not score. Anyway it was awesome to see the boys dawn the digital Sunday unis to take down the no good rotten neighbors to the north.

I'm still a little disappointed by the noise level of the Doyer fans compared to our Pads fans. Like the 'ackin like they hot shyt' Giants fans, the LA fans roll deep and make their presence known. We / you should change that. But winning really makes that aspect okay. So I'll just take the winning.

Also Nick Hundley has the funniest walk-away-from-the-plate after a swing and a miss. Like an angry 10 year old determined to show those guys he doesn't care what anyone says about his clothes. Stay hot Nick, and bring Ludwick with ya.

On to the Reds!

PADS TAKE THE HOME OPENER AGAINST SOME TEAM

That thems there was a great win. In front of the home crowd with Ole High-Leg-Kick throwing out the first pitch and the field looking pristine, the Padres came through with a 3-1 victory.  Here are some impressions from the three or four innings of the game I saw:

* Nick Hundley has decided he's the best catcher ever to breath. He'll totally keep it up for the whole season so watch out Ted Williams
* We chased a man with the first name 'Madison' after 3 and some change innings
* The Pads had a couple opportunities to blow that game open, didn't
* Bartlett's glove is looking golden
* Arron 'The Harrang-a-tang' decided to party like it's 2007, call GW and hop on your nintendo Wii
* Pablo Sandoval decided he sucks D at playing D (/applying tags like a paid professional would do)
* I keep re-forgetting that O-Dog is on our team. He's helping that by hitting .111
* Mike Adams is slowly making his way back into the sexy swing of things
* Heath Bell is My Padre
* Is it just me or is Dick Endberg a little less mute-button-inducing thus far?? Maybe it's early...
* Lastly, it looked pretty overcast during the game, which makes Bochy look even more like a dweeb in these shades:

Tha fuck is up with those?

THE HATEFUL GIANTS PREVIEW

We have a new blog here at Jerry's Kids, but due to extensive valet networking with opposing teams at their hotels we are already getting exclusive interviews with players and managers from around the majors.

We were able to reach the incoming San Francisco Giants who come into town for a brief two game trip for the Pad's long awaited 2011 home opener. Here are some brief quotes about their thoughts on the upcoming series, or the players' personal mantras in general:

Matt Cain says, "It's turning into one of the great rivalries in the NL. I think this series, as well as the whole year, will be a tough battle for both teams."

Bruce Bochy says, "Great as always to be back in San Diego, the narrow streets in San Francisco make it hard for me to navigate the ol' juggernaut of a head I've got up here."

Tim Lincecum says, "Jerry's Kids is my new favorite baseball blog to check out. Especially when I run out of rolling papers and the night terrors start kicking in."

Jonathan Sanchez says, "I hate when babies look me in the eye. It makes me want to kidney punch those little bastards until I get a nosebleed from the excitement."

In other news I'm psyched for the home opener at Petco!! Not Psyched as in I'll be there, but psyched none the less. Pads have Aaron "The Harrang-a-tang" going against some generally SFy d-bag. The Giants might mave momentum? because they scored 10 in their last game, but lost the previous two to the hated Doyers in LA. Either way our boys should be pumped to be in front of the home crowd and hopefully will get the W. If you are going save me a seat and order some nachos.

GO PADS
